Nabat Eats: Nature-Inspired Eatery by Miro Architects

After visiting their hydroponic farms, this design studio created a progressive and organic look for a concept dining store.

Sometimes, a modern look with nuanced, nature-inspired features is all you need to communicate a message of sustainability. When it came to the design of ‘Nabat Eats’, a concept diner at Capital Business Park in Sheikh Zayed, it was more than just a message. Nabat Eats was founded by the same people behind Nabat Farming, which works with hydroponic farms and uses them to create the same food they serve at their diner. So when it came to bringing Nabat Eats to fruition, the owners of Nabat Farming hosted the designers from Miro Architects, a Cairo-based design firm, at their hydroponic farms to help them understand the forward-thinking foundation of their work.

“The owner invited us to his hydroponic farms and asked us to find inspiration in the way they grow their fruits and veggies, and then apply it in the design of their new concept dining store,” Mohamed Hazem aka Miro, Founder of Miro Architects, tells #SceneHome. Considered to be the future of farming, hydroponic farms avoid the use of soil and rely instead on water-based nutrient solutions that are fed to crops, significantly decreasing the amount of water consumed.

“I was overwhelmed by how it all works and how advanced it is in comparison to regular farming,” Hazem adds. “It felt very futuristic which compelled us to create a space that looks modern and reflects their approach.”

To this end, Hazem made sure that the design of the diner revolves around water. Inside, the ceiling is covered by reflective steel sheets with a water ripple effect, while the exterior features waves that break its linear lines which are marked by sleek lighting. The outdoor seating area is shaded with a cantilever that has skylights, further connecting the store with its surroundings. They are accompanied by cheerfully coloured glass openings shaped after trees and flowers which reflect on the ground and move throughout the day, constantly reminding visitors of the ethos behind the concept store.
