AI-Generated Imagery Envisions Ancient Egyptian Architecture Today

Envision what ancient Egyptian cities would look like in the present day, with towering sculptures and Sphinx-shaped buildings.

Karim Abdullatif

Ancient Egyptian architecture is the epitome of monumentality and grandeur. Its buildings, whether they’re the Great Pyramids of Giza or the many awe-inspiring temples scattered across Upper Egypt, made it one of the world’s most iconic themes of architecture. And it seems, according to the algorithms that power AI-generated imagery, that the civilisation would’ve continued to rely on stone and mud bricks had it progressed to the present day.

Massive columns, one of the distinct features of ancient Egyptian architecture, were often decorated with carvings depicting gods and rulers, among a wide range of scenes. In these futuristic AI-generated visions prompted by online aggregators ‘nugget’, these figures appear to rise in height above sculpted skyscrapers with an extreme scale. Meanwhile, other buildings are shaped after a modern impression of the Sphinx.

Having a long-lasting impact on the world, many features of ancient Egyptian architecture are used in modern architecture and inspired different aspects of contemporary design. With the influence being evident in a variety of styles, from Neoclassical to Art Deco. It’s unsurprising that with the rise of AI-generated imagery, imaginative explorations of ancient Egypt have become a popular theme.
