Khalil Museum: A Dazzling Array of Rare Art

Built in 1915, the four-storey palace in Dokki served as the residence of renowned politician Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil.

With each one of its sides having different yet complementary styles, the Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum is one of the most significant museums in Egypt and the MENA region due to the treasure trove of priceless art that it hosts. Located in Giza, the museum’s rare collection includes the works of Claude Monet, Paul Gaugin, Auguste Renoir, and Auguste Rodin.Built in 1915, the four-storey palace served as the residence of renowned politician Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil, who served as the Prime Minister of Egypt twice throughout his life, and his wife, Emiline Lock. The couple shared a passion for art and endowed the aforementioned artists, creating a wide range of displays, antiques and sculptures.

For over a decade, the museum remained closed as it received a much deserved renovation that returned it to its polished look, offering visitors a magical experience that starts by entering the palace’s lush garden court in view of its Neoclassical Western Facade. Located at 1 Kafor St. in Dokki, the museum’s entrance fees range from EGP30 to EGP10 for students.
