Kahhal Looms’ Latest Collection Is Shaped by Nature’s Changing Rhythms

Handwoven by Cairo artisans, Kahhal Looms’ 'Reflections' brings texture, colour, and natural rhythm to interiors.

Kahhal Looms continues a long tradition of handwoven textiles with its latest collection, 'Reflections'. The series draws on the subtle shifts found in nature, such as the ripple of water, the changing light across a sky, and the gentle slope of a landscape, and translates them into rugs designed for modern living spaces. Each piece blends geometric lines with softer, organic shapes, creating surfaces that seem to move as light falls across them.

The colour palette is composed of soft blues, muted greens, warm greys, and earthy neutrals, with small pops of more vivid tones that draw the eye and add rhythm to the floor.

“With Reflections, we aimed to capture the quiet poetry of the natural world, the way light shifts across water or the sky’s changing tones, we translate the historic vocabulary of Egyptian weaving into a contemporary language that fits modern interiors while maintaining a connection to heritage.” says Mohamed ElKahhal, Partner at Kahhal Looms.

Every rug in the collection is hand-knotted, a process that can take weeks to complete. The artisans work with wool and silk, layering textures so that the rug’s surface interacts with light, revealing different details as the day passes. “A rug shapes the atmosphere of a room, through handwoven detail and nuanced colour, Reflections anchors a space in calm and balance.” adds Hend ElKahhal, Partner at Kahhal Looms.

For the campaign, the rugs were placed in Villa Magenta, a restored 1911 Cairo home. The building’s high ceilings, wide windows, and original mouldings provide a backdrop that reflects the collection’s balance between heritage and contemporary design.
