Film My Design - the first and only design film festival in the MENA region - is hosting its second edition in January 2022, kicking off the new year with an opportunity to appreciate design, architecture and urban life amidst a diverse series of film screenings, Q&A's, talks and panel discussions at Zawya Cinema.

The festival will feature artisans, designers, and filmmakers from all walks of life, whether they’re just starting out in the local scene or are established international names. FMD’s 2022 programme will hammer on creatives’ ability to inspire change through film screenings and talks that cover furniture design, architecture, crafts and more.

Four programmes will be featured throughout the festival, showcasing local and global talent. The ‘Emerging Local Talents’ programme brings together Egypt-based filmmakers with local designers to create design-films, four of which will be screened during the festival: ‘Amal’ by Rana Mubarak and Amal Salah, ‘Fractal’ by Lab59 Architects, ‘Marmar’ by Manar Abdelrahman and Hisham El Essawy, and ‘The Reminiscence of Port-Said’ by Tibyan El Fateh and Mohamed Radwan.

‘Egyptian Design Stories’ will screen a selection of films that feature the untold stories of Egypt’s vibrant creative scene with a focus on design, architecture and urbanism. Additionally, ‘Design Across Borders’ will show design films from around the world, including a curated selection in partnership with the New York-based ‘Architecture & Design Film Festival’. Finally, the ‘Design Film Conversations’ programme will feature a variety of diverse talks, diving into a range of cultural and contemporary topics. Yasmine El Dorghamy, founder of Rawi Magazine, will take to the stage to talk about Egypt’s costume history over the past 7,000 years. Editor-in-chief of ‘Architectural Record’, Cathleen McGuigan, will join director of New York’s ‘Architecture & Design Film Festival’ Kyle Bergman for a talk on ‘Women in the Field of Architecture’.

The festival will run from January 27th to January 30th at Zawya (Cinema Karim) in Downtown Cairo. For more information on the festival’s programme and tickets, visit www.filmmydesign.com
