First Edition of Cairo Design Week to Take Place This November

The first edition of Cairo Design week - set to take place from November 19th to November 25th - is dedicated to spotlighting local design talents in Egypt and beyond. Their stylish events will overtake Cairo with a slew of panel discussions, art exhibitions, competitions, and industry meet-ups with leading local and international forces in design.

“The Cairo Design Week will be a cornerstone event that puts Egypt on the map as a destination for art, creativity, and design and aims to attract those communities from all over the world to discover, fall in love, and be eager to work with Egyptian creators,” Hisham Mahdy, President of Cairo Design Week tells SceneHome. “We want to empower and support the emerging young talent in the industry by enabling this platform to be a springboard for the exposure of their work for years to come. The opportunity to launch Cairo Design Week is a step that encourages artists to elevate Egyptian art and design, and highlight the role that Egyptian craft has always played throughout history.”

Egyptian craftsmanship and artistry span centuries and with ancient artistic creations persisting to this day, Cairo Design Week is bringing Egypt’s artists, creatives, and designers to the forefront. The event’s board of trustees includes some of the biggest names in the industry including jewellery designer Azza Fahmy, events mastermind Amr Mansi, designer and founder of Kyme, Karim Mekhtigian, Sherif Abdelhady the founder of Aurea Furniture, and Amr Helmy of Amr Helmy Designs. Cairo Design Week will also feature a lineup of exhibitors including DeForum, Fashion Design District, Azad Art Week, and Creative Industry Summit.

On November 25th, a CDA22 ceremony will bring the festivities to a close, alongside a competition between emerging designers to be evaluated by a jury of household names and industry professionals.
