Misr Italia Properties (MIP), a leading real estate developer operating in Egypt, and Schneider Electric, a leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, have joined forces by signing a MoU to develop green and sustainable smart cities across Egypt on the sidelines of the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in Sharm El Sheikh.

Paving a path for the future of urban sustainability, the cooperation will see Schneider Electric implement their expertise to lay the foundations of Egyptian smart cities using EcoStruxure, an Internet of Things (IoT) enabled, open, plug-and-play platform that enables them to implement cutting-edge technologies into homes, buildings, data centres and entire industries. EcoStruxure will allow developers to fine tune and manage critical infrastructure such as electricity, water, gas, data networks, traffic and security. Actuating the theme of 'Implementation' that has defined COP27, MIP has also signed a contract  with Future Clean Energy, along with an investment of EGP 8 million, to install solar panels on the rooftops of three of their commercial development projects.

The scope of Future Clean Energy's work includes the creation of 400 kilowatt solar stations and the provision of microgrid software, which can help users save up to 20% of their expenses. MIP would be the first real estate company in the Middle East and Africa to adopt and implement this microgrid technique.
