SOM Unveils World’s Tallest Metro Station at Dubai Creek Harbour
The Gateway at Dubai Creek Harbour becomes the world’s tallest metro station, blending transit and civic space.

The Gateway at Dubai Creek Harbour is set to become the world’s tallest metro station. Designed by SOM for the Dubai Metro’s Blue Line, the 74-metre-tall, 10,800-square-metre structure is conceived as both a transit hub and a civic landmark shaped by the rhythm of the Creek it overlooks.
A mirrored pair of walls rises in staggered heights, their jura limestone and glass surfaces reflecting the shifting light of the waterfront. Throughout the day, sunlight animates the façade, casting a play of shadow across the concourse and platforms within. The station is organised across three primary levels that prioritise intuitive movement, natural ventilation, and clear visual connections, ensuring a fluid commuter experience for up to 160,000 daily passengers.
At ground level, a landscaped public plaza creates a welcoming civic space that opens the station to its surroundings and encourages community engagement. Sustainable design strategies, including high-performance materials, passive cooling, and efficient energy systems, create a functional and enduring public space. Projected to be completed by 2040, The Gateway embodies a vision of mobility that is both future-focused and rooted in place.
