Can the essence of coastal experiences be captured in compact cabanas? G’nK Group, the hospitality and entertainment conglomerate founded by Ahmed Ganzoury, presented this thought to the designers at The Design Avenue. What resulted was a series of alluring waterfront homes called White Residences, also referred to as Mazeej Residences, which have been situated in an exclusive location within Hacienda White at Egypt’s North Coast.

Here, irregularly oriented organic-chic interiors bathe in the sun’s glory through skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows that let the scented breeze in, putting the mind at ease while framing unique slivers of the Mediterranean’s scenic beauty.

Having previously worked on the nearby Mazeej Hotel in 2021, G’nK presented a similar yet enhanced experience to the permanent owners of the 36 cabanas in the project. “We wanted to blend the desert and sea ambiances into homes that revitalize the owners’ body and soul,” Marylise Michael, G’nK’s Senior Business Developer, tells #SceneHome.

Striving for authenticity, the cabanas have unusual plans and sporadic angles that showcase their innate living character. “The main challenge was increasing the functionality of these non-standard spaces,” Mohamed Talaia, The Design Avenue’s Managing Partner explains. Along with SCAS, the finishing contractors, they built mock-up walls onsite until finally settling on the right orientations that exemplified the intimate interaction between human experiences and the natural world within the abodes.

Wooden cladding was used with a certain degree of creativity to bring the most out of these capricious spaces with exaggerated geometrical curvatures, which allowed them to turn them into all-new functions, such as storage spaces sprouting out of nowhere. However, clever zoning solutions were not the only role these coatings displayed. “They also featured sleek lighting fixtures which drew the design away from typical boho aesthetics and sharpened it with subtle modernity,” Talaia says.

“The majority of the owners are celebrities and they wanted differentiating and calming living concepts,” Talaia continues. “For this reason, all the furniture and accessories were custom-made.” Epitomizing earthy designs, the interior surfaces resemble a uniform vessel due to their material cohesion, acting as a neutral canvas for the soft hued furniture that give the space a muted sense of contrast. Contemporary clay pottery shaped in the dynamic purity of uncluttered lines and personally picked accessories stand out, helping these cabanas feel more like homes.
