Renzo Piano Reveals Nature-Wrapped Medical Centre Design in Sharjah

The Jawaher Boston Medical District introduces a sustainable, green-centred healing facility with a modern touch.

Imagine a healthcare haven bathed in pristine white, surrounded by lush greenery, and glowing under the radiant UAE sun. This is the newly unveiled design of the Jawaher Boston Medical District in Sharjah, crafted by the globally renowned Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW). The healthcare project is led by BEEAH Group, a Sharjah-based public-private partnership focused on environmental sustainability and waste management.

At the heart of the design lies a vast tree-filled park spanning 1,000 by 500 metres, with a central canopy providing shade for the medical buildings. The highlight is a serene hospital nestled beneath the canopy, offering a tranquil environment with stunning views of the surrounding greenery.

Embodying the project’s ethos of sustainability, the central canopy is lined with photovoltaic panels to generate renewable energy for the site. Elevated on sleek white steel columns that mimic natural branches, the canopy stretches out gracefully, offering shade while allowing soft light to filter through. This interplay creates a bright yet calming atmosphere, immersing the space in comfort and daylight.

The hospital’s design is thoughtfully integrated into its verdant surroundings, creating a healing environment for both patients and visitors. Expansive windows and open layouts allow for unobstructed views of the therapeutic park, fostering a sense of connection to nature.
