Drawing from the pluralistic nature of Egyptian history, Salma Al Ashkar and her sister have united their efforts to create Knana, a contemporary homeware brand that embodies the rich, fragmented, legacy of Egyptian art and culture.

‘Knana’ is an ancient term frequently used to describe the land of Egypt. It translates to “preserved,” signifying the land’s divine preservation amid the desert. Selected as the brand name, Knana reflects the sisters' admiration for the evolution of Egyptian history while highlighting their commitment to the preservation of its rich arts across various historical periods.

This homegrown homeware brand presents a curated selection that spans from bed linens to tableware and accessories, each infused with an Egyptian twist. Inspired by iconic moments in history, the collection reflects the rich tapestry of influences from European, African and Arab cultures throughout time.

Their latest Nakhla Collection showcases 32 products inspired by Ancient Egyptian art and ornaments. This era's significance and its artistic expressions are reflected in the symbolism and hidden meanings woven throughout the designs.

The patterns selected for this collection are celebrated for their enduring appeal and continued fascination among people worldwide. From tableware to placemats, coasters, and cushions, the Nakhla Collection showcases a palette of rich cool and warm colours, evoking sophistication while directly referencing the era it represents.

The Afandina Collection takes inspiration from a different time in Egypt, paying tribute to King Fuad I and the historic moment of Egypt's independence in 1922. Embodying a spirit of unity and pride, this set is adorned with varying patterns directly inspired from the Egyptian and Syrian Union into the United Arab Republic (UAR).

Featuring 16 distinctive products, this collection includes items such as rugs, trays, and bed linen. It prominently showcases crimson red and dark olive green inspired by the UAR flag of that era, with the star symbol creatively integrated in various ways throughout the designs.

Travelling back in time, the West El Balad Collection takes you to the late 19th century, Egypt’s belle epoque. Referencing Cairo’s famous downtown area, this collection is reminiscent of a time when it was a thriving neighbourhood for the elite.

The West El Balad Collection features 14 products, each showcasing intricate designs that symbolise the aesthetic richness of this era and meticulous attention to detail. Ranging from vibrant oranges and greens to soft pinks and reds, the collection displays a vibrant spectrum of strikingly harmonious colours.
