Local Brand SAL Lights Unleashes New Tubby Table Lamp Collection
As vibrant and colourful as they come, SAL’s new chubby little table lamps will add a splash of colour to your space.
When walking the streets of Cairo today, you find yourself immersed in an ocean of gleam and glow. Chains of colourful bulbs hang from towering buildings, traffic jams flicker with brake lights, and shop signs blaze as brightly as the sun. Drawing from Cairo's dynamic atmosphere, Cairene architect Salsabeel Amin, founder of SAL Lights, unveils a summer collection of table lamps characterised by colourful boldness and quirky proportions, promising to infuse your space with audacious vibrancy and ambient light. Driven by her local context and interdisciplinary background, Salsabeel Amin uses a tapestry of light blueprints to explore uncharted design territory and advance the craftsman-designer dialogue.
SAL’s most recent release is the Tubby Table collection. The Tubby is a standout table lamp designed with a range of 8 colours to capture the spotlight. Its unique cylindrical base and inverted hat-shaped top, combined with its chubby proportions and vivid colours, give it a captivating character and a striking presence. Its downlight effect warms and illuminates with an ambient feel, avoiding an intrusive brightness and enhancing its role as an iconic art piece - perfect for entrances or vignettes.
The Tubby Table was preceded by the Campana Chroma collection, an earlier series that celebrates the power of colour and desire for self-expression. Originally an expansion of the iconic brushed brass collection, the Campana Chroma was released to introduce a wide array of materials, colours, and finishes, highlighting the designers' commitment to versatility. Not as chubby, the Campana bears some resemblance to the Tubby Table lamp with its inverted hat top. However it offers an overall skinny silhouette and lighter feel, featuring a sleek, pipe-like central cord connecting the top and base. Overall, the Campana Chroma boasts longer proportions and a smaller diameter.
