Zaha Hadid Architects has released their plans for Symphony Tower, a 160 metre residential building set within Dubai’s new Horizon district. The site occupies 38,000 square metres between Meydan Racecourse and the waters of Ras Al Khor, at the upper reaches of the historic Dubai Creek. Ras Al Khor is a protected wetland and sanctuary for migratory birds, including flocks of the UAE’s native rose flamingo.

The tower is defined by an illuminated lattice exoskeleton inspired by the geometries and embroidery of Emirati crafts. The stainless steel structure forms a continuous pattern around the building, with photovoltaic panels powering the amber lighting that appears after sunset.

At ground level, a glazed base connects the building to its waterfront setting. Rising above, the 42-storey volume unfolds in a sequence of terraces and stepped cut-outs that create private outdoor rooms and pool areas. A communal pool is positioned near the upper levels.

Bronze toned panels and expansive glazing wrap the façade, bringing natural light into the apartments and framing views through the structural lattice. Balconies extend from the façade to provide shading and outdoor living spaces. The exoskeleton supports the tower while reducing solar gain and improving comfort across the terraces.

A modular construction approach using recycled steel and low carbon concrete will reduce embodied carbon. Grey water recycling and drought tolerant planting will help manage resource use throughout the building.
